Human Brains: Conversation Machine
Client: Fondazione Prada
with RadicalMedia as Dir. Creative Technology
The Conversation Machine was an audio-visual installation in collaboration with renowned photographer Taryn Simon as part of the larger Human Brains exhibit for Fondazione Prada at the 59th Venice Biennale. The exhibit conveyed the theory, ethics, and opinions of over 30 neuroscientists interviewed from around the world.
Conversation Machine is a choreographed video collage comprised of 40 seamlessly integrated 4K screens. The perception of a conversation was created though a single timeline, and exported for each screen to synchronize with one another.
Though the interviews look and feel within a single staged set, all of these interviews were remotely conducted in five cities across three countries during the COVID-19 pandemic. I designed a system of remote video production that brought Simon’s vision to life safely and efficiently. This enabled a small crew to travel while Simon other members of production to remain in New York City, all while maintaining the confidence of a high quality production and on-set-like communication standards.
