Data Security
Data Security is a collaboration with friend and musician Avery Brooks to create live and improvised techno, acid, and industrial dance music as a reflection of our affinity for dance music, analog hardware instruments, club spaces and communities. Data Security is a rewarding venture of trust, freedom, friendship, exploration, and communication.
Operating within dance music, we have the responsibility to move our audience. Yet we simultaneously create through improvisation, so we won’t know how the music feels until we create it. The simplicity of dance music creates a razor thin margin for error to keep our audience engaged with a path we are laying in real-time.
Improvisation is a vulnerable performance technique of imagination, desire, awareness, vision, and honesty. We have no pre-programmed sequences, no presets, no anchoring moments. We build, we listen, we adjust, we remove, we observe, we enjoy.
This is a raw conversation between each other and our audience.
I built a real-time program with TouchDesigner and a MidiFighter for our show visuals that alludes to corrupt video files, macro-blocking, data moshing and other digital video artifacts. The base imagery is stock video files found in stock video searches for network infrastructure, IT, security and other computer concepts. Below is a rendering of the project that would normally be projected and controlled during our show.
