MEDIA IN GHANA
I studied abroad in Accra, Ghana in the summer of 2013 . The program placed each of the sixteen students into full-time internships focused around different media - from broadcast journalism to advertising, newspapers to magazines. The capitol, Accra, has 5 million people and it takes about two hours to travel 10 miles in a car that shouldn't be allowed to move. The sixteen of us stayed in a house 'Real World' style.
PLASTIC WASTE - METRO TV
I produced a news package with Jeff Mercado for Metro TV, one of Ghana's largest national TV news channels. The story focuses on the environmental waste problems due to heavy amounts of plastic litter in the water systems. We interviewed a Ghana EPA official, a costal village chief, a professor of environmental sociology at the University of Ghana, and an employee at Trashy Bags, an NGO focused on creating recycled shopping bags and plastic art.
I carried a camera everywhere. Unfortunately, after shooting weeks of photos and video, our house was burglarized. I lost my camera and my laptop. Not a fun thing for a media producer, but our house grew stronger and closer after the incident. Here are some of the photos that remain.
